Furlough planning thoughts and redundancy
As an update to our blog earlier last week, I wanted to emphasise the importance of planning with regards to possible future redundancies. Most of you will now know, the covid job retention scheme (CJRS) is changing again such that: Employers will start contributing to furlough wages from 1st August.

CJRS – employers have until 10 June to bring employees into scheme
Last Friday, HM Government announced the outline of how the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (“CJRS”) will develop following the initial 4-month period. The scheme will become more flexible from 1 July, allowing businesses to bring back employees on a part-time basis, while receiving CJRS grant support for the employees’ normal days not worked.

COVID-19: Government Help for the Self-Employed – extended on 29 May 2020
On 26th March 2019, Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced assistance for the self-employed, intended to be analogous to the help already announced for furloughed employees. The basics of what has been announced are set out below. The scheme is referred to as the Self-Employed Income Support Scheme (“SEISS”).

Bounce Back Loan Scheme (BBLS)
What is it? The Bounce Back Loan Scheme (BBLS), provides financial support to small businesses across the UK that are losing revenue, and seeing their cashflow disrupted, as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. Small firms will be able to access to 100% government backed loans.

Government announces start-up support plan
The Chancellor Rishi Sunak has announced a £1.25bn support package for start-up and tech-driven companies who may be unable to access the existing COVID-19 support measures. Start-up innovative businesses can often be high-growth but loss-making, meaning they are not eligible for some of the existing support packages.

Chancellor Extends Furlough Grant Scheme to 30 June
Rishi Sunak has today announced that the Government will be extending the availability of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) for one month until 30 June.

Coronavirus Large Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CLBILS)
What is it? The Coronavirus Large Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CLBILS) will open on Monday 20 April 2020. It is designed to provide financial support to mid-sized and larger businesses across the UK that are losing revenue and seeing their cashflow disrupted, as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Extension of eligibility cut-off date for claims for furloughed employees under CJRS
HMRC have just announced that it will not only be employees on the payroll as at 28 February 2020 who are eligible to be furloughed and the grant claimed. New guidance published yesterday has confirmed the eligibility date has been extended to 19 March 2020– the day before the scheme was announced.
