CJRS extended further into March 2021 and SEISS increased
The Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, has just announced in Parliament that the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (or “furlough scheme”) will be extended further, into March 2021.

CJRS extended through November
Yesterday evening, the Prime Minister announced that there will be a 4-week nationwide “lockdown” effective from 5 November. These restrictions will require certain businesses and venues to close.

Support increased: Job Support Scheme, SEISS and business grants
Job Support Scheme (“JSS”) JSS Open For employers who can operate safely but continue to face reduced demand, the Job Support Scheme, through JSS Open, will provide support to help these employers keep employees on the workforce on shorter hours rather than making them redundant.

Bounce Back Loan Scheme extended
The application date for the Bounce Back Loan Scheme (BBLS) has now been extended to 30 November, and the loan repayment process made more flexible. To date, the BBLS has provided more than a million loans between £2,000 and £50,000 to businesses affected by the Covid-19 crisis.

New Jobs Support Scheme and continuing business support measures
Following the announcement yesterday that the Autumn Budget had been cancelled, the Chancellor Rishi Sunak today announced a new Jobs Support Scheme which will replace the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS). The Chancellor also announced extensions and revised payment terms to various other Government support schemes.

Kickstart Scheme launched
The Kickstart Scheme, announced by the Chancellor in July’s Summer Statement, is launched today. What is the Kickstart Scheme? The Kickstart Scheme is grant funding to create new 6-month job placements for young people who are currently on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment.

Furlough planning thoughts and redundancy
As an update to our blog earlier last week, I wanted to emphasise the importance of planning with regards to possible future redundancies. Most of you will now know, the covid job retention scheme (CJRS) is changing again such that: Employers will start contributing to furlough wages from 1st August.

CJRS – employers have until 10 June to bring employees into scheme
Last Friday, HM Government announced the outline of how the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (“CJRS”) will develop following the initial 4-month period. The scheme will become more flexible from 1 July, allowing businesses to bring back employees on a part-time basis, while receiving CJRS grant support for the employees’ normal days not worked.
