Fuel, car and vans

Depending on the industry you are in, you may be considering letting your employees use a car or a van to perform their job.

To help you calculate the benefits of offering your employees this, we strongly recommend that you take advantage of the HMRC’s Van Benefit Calculator and Car Benefit Calculator to ensure you’re equipped with the most up-to-date figures and rates.

Van Benefit Calculator

Allows you to work out the tax charge for your employees using a van for private use (based on whether fuel is provided and if there is any private use of the van).

HMRC Van Tax

Car Benefit Calculator

Allows you to work out the ‘benefit in kind’ value of your employee’s company car and the relevant income tax charges payable for offering this privilege.

Fuel Benefits

Similarly, if you plan to provide your employee with fuel, you can use the HMRC’s Fuel Calculator to establish the ‘benefit in kind’ value of providing them with fuel for private use and the relevant income tax charges payable for providing this privilege. These too are updated annually to take into account the changing rates.
